The Hanjyoji is located halfway up the Iimori Mountain. It is said that it was re-built during Bunwa era (middle of 14th century) by the order of Gokougon emperor, it was suffered from a fire in Bunmei 16(1484) and re-built again in Bunmei 18 by the order of Enmanin Futashina prince. There are many Kishinsatsu left in this temple and most of them were dedicated on same year.

The main hall is 13.66m deep, 12.88m wide, Japanese style of one floor with Kouhai in back. The temple is the second oldest temple in the city, next to Hagaji and before Jinguji. But there are some differences in construction. In the main hall of both Hagaji and Jinguji, the depth of outer hall is 3.6m and pillars are put 1.8m inside. However, in the main hall of Hanjyoji, these pillars are not used, but the depth of outer hall is 2.7m. There is no difference in the inner hall. But to compare with other two temple, the roof style is difference, thus, this temple looks smaller than other two temples.

The other two temples are rather gorgeous, but this temple is rather simple. It may show the difference of a source of money, as it was built in the Warring States period.
