Ungaiji is the temple of Rinzai sect, Nanzenji mission and the founder of the temple was Jyunpo Syugyoku, the son of Motonobu Takeda. He was born as the younger brother of Motomitsu Takeda in Bunki 3(1503) and he entered the priesthood and went to Kyoto at young age. The Takeda family donated a tower and a Jyujyoin in Kenninji, Kyoto, and the chief priest in every generation had been selected from the priests of Takeda family. Thus, it is understandable that he went to Kyoto.

He became the chief priest of Seiunji in Daiei 8(1528) at the age of 25. Then he retired in Tenbun 3(1534) and he named Seidou and built Ungaiji in Tenbun 8(1539). However, he was welcome to be the 282nd generation of the chief priest of Kenninji in Tenbun 12(1543). He passed away in Tenbun 18(1549) at the age of 46.

There is the notice written by him and the portrait was drawn in the circle down. Because of the notice in Tenbun 14, it is clear that the portrait was drawn while he lived. Its face is quite similar to the one in the portrait of Motomitsu Takeda kept in Hosshinji, as they were brothers.

It is 79.6cm long and 29.4cm wide and the only portrait exists which describes the priest from Takeda family.
