The Koujyouji is the temple built by Takauji Ashikaga in Rekiou 2(1339) and the founder of the temple was Hossudainenhouen from Jikusenbonsen in China.

The statue is the main object of worship of Koujyouji Kannondo. There is no record about the origin of the statue. However, according to "Wakasagunkenshi", it used to belong to Wakasahime shrine.

It is 181.0cm in height and covered with brilliant colouring. Eyes are engraved and it has thick chest and waist. It is presumed to be made in later half of 9th century as made by one piece of Hinoki tree which bent to the right a little.

It used to be the statue which has 42 hands of Senjyukannon and presumed to be one of the oldest statues of Senjyukannon.
