The tableware with lacquer work used in Koushinin

Shinkouji was found in Kanei 7(1630) for Kouanin, who was the wife of Tadataka Kyogoku and the daughter of the second Shogun Hidetada, and named Kouanji. It became the Bodaiji of Shinkouin, who was the wife of Tadakatsu Sakai, in Kanei 18(1641) and renamed Shinkouji Jyosyouzan.

There are tableware kept in Shinkouji. These are Kenban( the main Zen, second and third Zen), Meshiwan, Jyuwan, Ninowan, Tsubowan, Koshidaka(14 pieaces), Hirawan, Yuoke, Shirutsugi, ladle and chopsticks.

There is the notice on the box which keep these tableware. According to the notice, this box was made in Genbun 5(1740) as the memorial service for one hundred years after Koushinin's death.

There is the decoration describing the flowers of morning glory with lacquer work of gold and silver in Kakeban. Red lacquer was painted inside of bowls and lacquer works of gold and silver was made outside of bowls.

These are the set for wedding as 3 pieces of Kenban and bowls and other tableware were together. These were made in early stage of Edo period. Even though some pieces might be missing, many pieces are left and well-maintained.
