The two ancient tombs of Kamo

There are many ancient tombs in Kamo area. The ancient tombs in Kamo Kitayama are registered as prefecture cultural property.

These are round shaped in west side of the foot of a mountain and one of the biggest ancient tombs in Wakasa province which dug into the side of a tombs and have stone rooms. It is considered that these were made in second Kofun period ( end of 6th century to beginning of 7th century).

There are no possessions of a dead person which were buried with him, but the stone room has never damaged more than one thousand years.

The principal axis of north tomb goes on the line of south and north and back wall is 2.6m wide, 3.96m in height and 4.7m long. There is a Genshitsu and four stones are used for the ceiling.

There are stones between the Genshitsu and leading road to distinguish the difference and the ceiling of leading road is also 1m down. It is quite rare example which has the differences.

The leading road is 1.6m wide, 2.3m in height, 9.0m long and has four stones for ceiling.

The Genshitsu of the south tomb is 4.2m long, 3.1m wide and 3.76m in height and leading road is 8.28m long and 2.0m wide.
