This case is the package data of the Jomon period excavated from the Torihama shell mound. The Torihama shell mound is located in Mikatacho, Mikatagun, Fukui-prefecture and the ruins of the damp ground which spread near the juncture in the Hasu river and the Takase river with which carries out the whereabouts to Torihama. This case contains the remains in Showa 55(the 5th investigation) and Showa 60(the 10th investigation) in part centring on the remains in Showa 50(the 4th investigation) among the remains detected by the preliminary survey accompanying the Hasu river repair enterprise.
The remains inclusion layer was continued and deposited on dozens of layers as a result of investigation, following shell layers even on the depths with an above sea level of -1m - -3m. The remains which constitute this case are divided roughly into what belongs to the beginning of Jomon period from the excavation layers (lower layer excavation), and the thing (the upper excavation) which belongs in the first half of the Jomon period. The former consists of 242 earthenware, 84 stone implements, wooden good of the shape of a flint arrowhead and one piece of rope which made of 2 twists. The latter consists of 127 earthenware and ground products, 489 stone implements and stoneware, 263 products of bones and shell, 136 wooden goods, and 33 ropes.
This case is precious data which do not have an equal in others when restoring the actual condition of a life of Jomon man from the characteristic of the ruins of the damp ground including the colourful nature remains of organic of the Jomon period beginning and the first half.
