The Eifukuan in Okudano is famous with a waterfall as a temple connected with Menzan Zen priest.

Menzan Zen rpiest was born in Kumamoto and the best student of Zen in Edo period. He especially studied about the Shohougenzou written by Dougen zen priest who was the founder of Eiheiji.

He visited Obama in Shotoku 1(1711) for the first time. Then, he travelled in Kyoto, Kamakura, Ousyuu, and Kyusyu for 18 years and returned Kuinji in Obama back and started writing what he had learnt for ages. He built an An in Matsunagatougouueno and yet concentrated on writing. There is a site of An in Mtsunagaueno. The existing Eifukuan had been moved since Meiji period.

There are many writings of Menzan zen priest left in the temple. The most important writings is what he studied about Shohougenzou. There are some writings left which he directly wrote the Jyutsusan on the Eiheishouhougenzou and the Syui Eiheishouhougenzou written by Kaijyo, the disciple of Dougen Zen priest.
These are 33cm long and 23cm wide. The Eiheishouhougenzou are 6 books, and the Syui Eiheishouhougenzou are 4 books.

The Jyutsu is the summary of what Dougen zen priest said, the San is the comment.
