Some fantastic stories during Kenpo era (1213-1218) were told with its origin of Shinmei shrine (enshrined Amaterasuominokami and Houjyuouminokami) located in Shirotsubaki mountain.
The stone beacon of Shinmeigu which was described on right side down was built in Kansei 1(1789) and where it was located used to be on the boundary line between Tango and Tanba province. However, it was buried under the landslide and it was moved to the gate of the shrine.
This drawing describes the scenery of shrine in old days accurately and also describes the solemn Iwakura, party under a cherry tree, tea room, Bushi walking and riding a horse, horses, travellers, women, men in argument, farmers.
There is a written oath which not to lend a room for a meeting for a man and a woman, or no pleasure in night, in the temple and it tells the prosperity as this drawing shows. It might have been made during Kansei era, at the end of Edo period. It is 368cm wide and 171cm long.
These folding screens were transferred because of the legend that Happyakubikuni entered into the cave under the temple after she came out of the temple and these became the treasure of the temple since ever. But it is unknown who donated.
