Hagaji has many precious old writings such as Engi written by an emperor, and this writing of Hagaji Hondo Uwabuki Kanjincho is also one of them. For this subscription, 32cm long and 255cm wide, ruled paper was used and it is quite rare that it is a roll eventhough it is a subscription. Writer was Seirenin Nyudo Sonchin Shinnou.
This subscription starts with Kanjinsyamonkeihaku and describes the history of this temple since the foundation in Reiki 2 and after 60 years passed since re-building by Chikasue Abe, its roof had become broken and re-roofed again and finally it finishes the faith of the main object of worship, the statue of Jyuichimenkannon. The writer, Seirenin Nyudo Sonchin Shinnou is the third son of Gokashiwabara emperor and he died at the age of 47 in Tenbun 19(1550), thus this subscroption was written when he was 11 years old. However, handwriting is not childish at all and so sophisticated that it shows us his unbelievable knowledge.
It took 18 years to finish the re-roofing the main hall according to the
writing of Hagaji Nenjyugyouji. It was the Warring States period and 18
years means to be a hard time for the temple. Probably it would have been
carried out emergency repair and kept off rains.
