Hagaji is one of the oldest temple in Obama city and found by the order of emperor. The temple has had something to do with the Dynasty since middle age and there are more than 80 old writings kept and some of them were quite written by emperors which is quite exceptional.

This writing was also written by Sanehito Imperial prince and notice was written by Goyozei emperor.

It was written on paper and used Chinese ink, 50cm long, 430cm wide and has a beautiful cover of roll. Handwriting is also beautiful. We shall see the history of this temple.

This temple was founded in Reiki 2(716) by Gyoki Bosatsu. He was 48 years old at that time. He had built more than two hundred temples in his life. The main object of worship is the statue of Jyuichimenkanzenon and it was also made by Gyoki and has beautiful colourings. After that, this temple was suffered from strong wind and rain in the middle of Heian period and the main hall was covered with mud. However, it was re-built again and Yoritomo Minamoto donated the three-storied Touba in Kamakura period. But, it was again suffered from fires in Muromachi period and the main hall was re-built in Bunan 4(1447). This is the outline of this temple's history which the emperor wrote.

The notice is 12 line with 175 words, written by the emperor. It says that:
this temple has been developed since the foundation with many people's cooperation and now re-building is completed by Sanesue Akita.
