The special feature of this statue is that the colouring is still kept in good condition, thus it is quite famous all over Japan. The skin is mixed colour of yellow and white, crown is orange, eye brow and eyes are painted by Chinese ink and cloths are red and green.
According to the temple, this brilliant coloured statue is the copy of woman emperor, Gensho, who ordered to dedicate.
It is 146.4cm in height and one piece of Hinoki tree. The tension of the shoulder is large, and a trunk part tightens. Seemingly the pattern of clothes is also initial sculpture and repeats a big wave and a small wave by turns.
However, to compare with a statue made in Heian period, head and body parts are rather thin and light, thus, it is considered to be made in 10th century. But, it learned the old style that the right hand is quite long as following a sample of Teikan sculpture.
