It is an ancient Japanese tomb of a circular shape with a rectangular frontage located just southeast side of JR Shinhirano station. In the rectangular frontage, there is a building of Shirahige shrine.
The rectangular frontage is east side and a circular shape is west side. There is no specific scales known, but it is about 53m long and the diameter of the circular shape is about 30m and 6m in height, the width of the rectangular frontage is about 25m and about 4m in height, thus the circular part is higher than the rectangular part. There used to be a foss around the tombs, but it was recently filled in. We can see the rest parts of the foss in the rice field in east side.
There were no stones put around the tomb but there are Haniwa around it. The investigation was held in Heisei 7 by Fukui prefecture and it was clear that it was made in beginning of 6th century.
There are two ancient tombs of a circular shape with a rectangular frontage, one is Kamifunaduka, and another is Shimofunaduka, east side of this tomb. Thus, it should be considered to be an one of the group. There are 18 ancient tombs of a circular shape with rectangular frontage and most of them are located in Kaminakacho and Obama city.
