Going up beside the Matsunaga river about 4km from the village of Ikenokouchi and stepping down to the river, there is the waterfall of Samban, so-called the best waterfall in this province.
In the book of Matsunaga village history, it is written that:
There is the waterfall of Sambam in Ikenokouchi. It is called as one, two and three. (Middle parts are omitted) the basin of a waterfall is about 60cm big, and water goes to the second basin. Falling about 24m from second basin to third basin, it looks like a white cloth, it is about 3.6m big. (Middle parts are omitted) it is about 3.6m from second basin to first basin, it looks like a Japanese pampas grass. There is a narrow road just beside there. It is said that a priest of Myotsuji came to this waterfall and prayed during a poor harvest, it suddenly started raining.
It is also written that:
This waterfall of Samban is the starting point of Matsunaga river. (Middle parts are omitted.) It has three falls in one waterfall, thus it is called "three waterfalls". The second waterfall is beautiful and falls about 2.7m. When water is full, it becomes three lines. In summer, once you go near the waterfall, you would feel cool. In the end of Edo period, a statue of Fudomyoo used to be located in the second basin and there used to be a festival on every August 28th. If you throw any dirty thing, there becomes a lightning and a thunder and heavy wind and rains.
It was suffered from the typhoon No.13 in Showa 28(1953) and third basin was collapsed badly. And there was no statue of Fudomyoo, but it is still a beautiful waterfall.
