It was found that in 19,834 square metres of the precincts of the temple, there had been many buildings such as Nandaimon, Cyumon, Kondo, Koudo and towers located orderly and had been a cultural centre of Wakasa province in Nara period.
There is the modern times architecture of Yakushido in the corner of the precincts. According to the temple, the statue of Yakushinyorai was made by Kasugabusshi, but it has apparently the feature of Kamakura period.
Probably this is one of the best statue in Wakasa province, it is full of humanity and realistic. Eyes and eyebrow are simple and engraved smoothly.
This is not coloured at all, thus it is full of wooden cleanliness and plump body shows the special feature of these days. It is 79.7cm in height.
There are two pieces of wood for the head part, one piece for neck and two pieces for the body. There is a notice inside of knee which says that it was the main object or worship of woman temple in Genroku 6(1693). However, it is considered that this had been the main statue of Kokubunji before it.
