This temple was built in 714 by the apprentice of Taicho the great priest,
then became the place where the dynasty prays and renamed Jinguji. It is
also famous for the place where Onyumyojin was moved to from Unose.
It is said that the temple had been rebuilt by Kanmu emperor and Shirakawa emperor, and Syogun Yoritsune built 7 halls and 25 buildings, the priests' houses, in Kamakura period and after becoming a part of Wakasaichinomiya shrine, it renamed as Nemoto Jinguji. Kiyouji Hosokawa also repaired in Muromachi period. The existing main hall was repaired by Yoshikage Asakura, the protector of Echizen, in Tenbun 22(1553). However, there are now only the nio gate, the main hall, Kaizan hall, Enzou bou and Touhon Bou. The main hall was repaired in Showa 30.
The main hall is five Ken and six Ken. It means that 14.34m wide and
16.60m depth. Roof is made with skin of Hinoki trees, it stands on rocks
and verandas were arranged.
The grand appearance is the building of middle ages, most of parts were
Japanese style but some parts are Chinese.
