There is a Jizo-hall left side of the main hall of Myorakuji.
This main statue is quite a good work and the priest Eshin engraved it
with thousands of little Buddha according to the temple.
It is 165.4 cm in height from the bottom of the right foot to the top
of head, and 134 cm from hip to the top. The typical figure in the end
of Heian period is shown, such as very round, harmonious and plump, shallow
engraved cloths.
The eyes are new crescent form and long, down casting. It has a holy
jewel in the left hand and a pilgrim cane in the right hand. It is a Jizo
of the prolongation of life.
The body is covered with gold and lacquer, brilliant colours ware painted
later.
Jizobosatsu is believed that it saves people during the period of 5,670 million years after the Gautama Buddha passed away until Mirokubosatsu would come to life. It is a familiar and mercy Bosatsu.
