It is said that at the early stage of Nara period, the holly priest Gyoki
engraved the main statue and put it on a mountain and later Kohotaishi
built the temple.
The main hall is the oldest existing architecture in Wakasa province
and registered as special protect architecture in Meiji 34(1901) and once
repaired in Showa 37.
Pillars and circumference of eaves are used very Japanese style, not
only continent style. It shows grand and simply beautiful. It built in
the early stage of Kamakura period.
There are divided two halls in the main hall as the special feature of
esoteric Buddhism construction. The outer hall's ceiling is decorated which
is a few example such as Chojyuji in Ohmi province and Zenkoji in Buzen
province. Decorated panels are used to distinguish the inner hall and outer
hall.
The main stage of inner hall and Kakukyoma which the writings in 1296
located are both superior works.
