After the flood of Minami River, the temple re-built at the opposite
side of the valley and re-named Enshoji, and also convert to Rinzai sect
from Shingon sect.
The statue has normally been located in Dainichido, the right side of
the main hall.
The statue is a great work of 251.5 cm in height, presumed to have been
made in 12th century. Dainichinyorai is believed as Supreme of mandala
as well as in the esoteric Buddhism, and its form is divided into two types
in the Cosmic Buddha. The first form is Chikenin, a left index finger is
grasped with a right hand in the world of Kongoukai, and the second one
is Houkaiteiin, a left hand is turned up on a knee at first, then put a
right hand on the left hand in order to meet the both thumb together in
the world of Taizoukai. Even though this is the statue of Nyorai, but this
statue is shaped as if Bosatsu, like tying the hair, decorates with Kushiro,
puts the Teni on cloth.
This statue is stable, for instance, the head contracts as the jaw becomes
small, both shoulders are stretched so that body is shaped as inverse triangle,
and both elbow and the knee are stretched widely. There is the special
feature of the last stages of Heian period, such as engraving with shallow
downcast eyes, thin both arms, and a shallow engraving of cloth. This is
the one of few superior statue of Dainichinyorai in Hokuriku area.
This statue has been repaired in the last stages of Edo period, covering
with gold expect the basement.
